After extensive talks with Wizards of the Coast, we have come to an agreement regarding new tournament prizes. In exchange for receiving prize support directly from Wizards (in addition to some support from our distributor), we have modified our prize payouts to go deeper into the playing field.

Here is how prizes will be distributed at normal events.

Each player entered will add one booster to the prize pool. In addition, for every four players or part thereof, we will add one booster to the pool.

The pool will be divided as follows:

  • 1st place: 40%
  • 2nd place: 20%
  • 3rd & 4th place: 10% each
  • 5th place through half the field: 20% split among all players; minimum one booster each.

(If there are less than 12 players in a tournament, the prizes for 5th onwards will be added to the prize pool for 1st through 4th.)

We do have some flexibility on how to distribute prizes, so we can change the prize structure somewhat if we find that this model is not working.

In addition, we will be implementing the GamesNet Payback program that was previously discussed. All tournaments held September 1, 2002 onwards will earn points that can be redeemed for additional prizes. Full details, including points earned and how to redeem them, will be posted by October 15th.
